Community Description

We are an inclusive community in formation. We celebrate diversity and seek to create spaces and gatherings where everyone feels welcomed, heard, and seen. We strive to be an antiracist community, recognizing the intersectionality of race and disability. Through this, we work to ensure L’Arche NC reflects the racial diversity of the wider community. Likewise, we seek to partner with a variety of organizations, religious and secular, to foster meaningful relationships across difference to help transform the public’s awareness and perception of people living with intellectual disabilities.

Community Strengths

Our community is collaborative! We often partner with other organizations and groups for events and programs.

Our community is welcoming! We invite folks of all backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities to gather for crafts, games, songs, meals, prayers, and MORE!

Our community has tenacity! Several individuals have been working to establish a L’Arche community in North Carolina for many years. We are getting closer to bringing the vision of a L’Arche community in NC to life.

What you should know before coming

While we do not yet have our own place to call “home,” we have many events and programs to provide opportunities for friendship and community. These events are free and everyone is welcome to attend. We hope to build connections and form friendships so that all may know they matter and belong.
