Skills Needed
Applicants should be 21 years or older, have a valid driver’s license with at least 5 years of driving experience and be able to physically transfer core members.
Geographic Location
Located in northeast Florida, L’Arche Jacksonville is just 25 minutes from the ocean. A regional business center, it has many museums and cultural offerings. Swimming and surfing are popular at nearby barrier island beaches such as Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach. Championship golf courses in the area include Ponte Vedra Beach’s TPC Sawgrass, headquarters of the PGA Tour. Weatherwise, you can expect an average of 220 sunny days a year. The temperature tends to be in the 80’s and 90’s from April to October, with higher humidity. There are milder temperatures the rest of the year.

Community Description
Core members at L’Arche Jacksonville are middle-age to senior citizens, most of whom grew up in Florida. Assistants range in age from recent college grads to older adults and hail from six different countries. We have 20 core members and about the same number of assistants to support four homes and one day program.
Community Faith Characteristics
L’Arche Jacksonville has a strong Catholic tradition, even though not all members are Catholic. In the spirit of ecumenism, we welcome people of other Christian traditions and indeed other faiths, or those without faith.
Community Strengths
Relationships between assistants and core members are very deep and genuine. The community has a strong spiritual life, many long-term assistants and a strong structural foundation that provides stability, and a new, spacious and modern workshop for daytime activity.
Community Challenges
It is difficult for the community to welcome international assistants due to the background screening process.
What you should know before coming
Three of our homes and community center/office are located on one property allowing for lots of interaction among members. Our other home and Rainbow Workshop are within walking distance.
