Geographic Location
Our community is located in the beautiful city of Seattle, situated between the Puget Sound and Lake Washington, so you are never far from a body of water. We are in a popular neighborhood in Seattle called Capitol Hill with large parks and delicious coffee shops. This is a lively part of the city, centrally located with high walkability and public transit scores, as well as delicious restaurants and a vibrant arts scene. Hiking, skiing and water sports are popular pastimes in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Our community was established in 1975 and consists of 3 houses and an activity center where we make candles and art. These are all within walking distance of each other.
Public Transportation
We have an excellent metro bus system with bus lines and the light rail near all three of our homes. There are also many amenities within walking distance; we are 2 miles from downtown. We also have a community car that assistants can reserve for personal use.
Community Description
We currently have 12 core members ranging in age from 40s to 70s, some of whom have been at L’Arche Seattle for 45 years! Our assistants come from diverse cultural, social, and religious communities around the country and across the globe. The majority of assistants are mid-20s to mid-30s. We seek to be a welcoming space for all people seeking transformation and growth in L’Arche, regardless of their identities, abilities, or level of experience.
